| Political opinions I realise that you might or might not agree with some of the statements here. These are my opinions for the moment and all of this is under constant reconsidderation. The basics of any sane human being should be constant self-reevaluation anyway. I really enjoy good discussions when people are using good arguements (like my father allways does). The fact that something would not be moral or not in accordance with gods laws are just matters of opinion loose from good argumentation. I do not believe in a god such as traditional churches try to portraid him/her. To me that god and that church are the mere institutionalization of the human conscience as man has institutionalized most things surrounding us. I believe in me and my conscience and believe I am a person of high morals and I have a very strong believe in mutual respect and consideration. I strongly believe most people know deep down what is wrong and what is right, too bad traditionalism, moralism, jealousy and hate keep messing things up for all of us. I am: A pragmatic Pro Euthanasia (passive and active) Pro Gay marriage with adoption rights Pro drinking/tobacco age and general age of conscent of 16 years old Pro a compulsory driving test every 7 years Pro the dutch 19%, 38% and 60% tax brackets Pro free choice abortion Pro state run healthcare Pro 125 km/h speed limits in most streches (80 Mph) Pro every countries free choice of using nuclear energy Pro fully legalising the production, sale and consumption of marihuana Pro ownership based conservation of nature (natuurmonumenten) Pro European Union, all records should be open though Pro Euro, poor brits and danes, little do they know. Against citizens owning guns (police and military only) Strongly against the death-penalty, in every case Against embrio sex tampering Against the genetic modification of foods (nothing is wrong with it now) Against militant organisations as Greenpeace and the Anti worldbank movement Against domain brokery Against the US boycot against Cuba Statements: Hard-drug addicts are a healthcare problem NOT a criminal problem, people addicted to hard-drugs should be treated as patients and given free methadon, free new needles and councelling to help them kick-off. Aids/HIV is a problem of society as a whole, free condoms could be a step towards significantly reducing new infections and I believe maybe joint inssurance companies should save themselves a lot of money of doing so. The cost of treating one HIV + person could buy you a lot of condoms! The "It's their own fault" statement is too easy and childish to even seriously react upon, AND it does not solve our problem. Any governor, president or whomever who signs a death-penalty bill or execution order is ill, and a murderer. Killing people is wrong. Period. The Death penalty does not work as a threat to criminals, it does not solve problems, feelings of revenge should be resolved another way. Let me take it one step further, a government who uses violence on it's people will inflict more violence from the people. Hitting someone in the neck, makes their adrenaline levels skyrocket, they will react less rational and less patient as my father once wisely said. It is the task of the government and police to show peacefull and non-violent solutions can work... and usually they do, they merely take more patience. Let me refer to the Tao, be peacefull to those who are peacefull to you, be peacefull to those who are violent to you, that is the only way to create peacefullness. Every healthy economy needs a 3-5% unemployment rate to just keep the flow of human resources going (Keynes and others). It is therefore more than fair and logical that the economy pays for those 3-5% to be in a fairly good position (i.e. 70% of the last earned wage the first year) as they are just fullfilling their important role within the economy. As we agreed upon in a United Nations resolution, we should spend 0,7% of our GNP on helping the poor countries of the world and their citizens to have a better life. Only the Netherlands, Sweden and one other country are doing so right now. Rich countries like the US (now spending only 0,1%) should get their act together and start helping, only that way can they become partners in stead of dependant nations. That is in all of our favour. Email your reactions |
