| The Netherlands Long live the queen! the country I was born and raised in. Most likely to be the most open and tolerant country I know (and of course there is stuff still to be done). Glad I was raised in the state that now allowes euthanasia (totally pro) abortion, gay marriages and soft-drugs to be legal. More than 35% of the land and more than 50% of the people Live below sea level, that means the waterworks (dikes & dunes, pumps and the westerscheldekering) are crucial to our survival, I am not too worried though, we've been here for a while, and I recon we will stay here... Even better, we are constantly claiming more land from the sea. Amsterdam Our capital. Delft Historically a very important city in dutch history and my residence for 21 of my 24 years. The wealth Delft knew in the 15th-16th century made it into a beautiful pittoresque place worth a visit. Den Haag (the Hague) I studied there and the government seats here. The queen lives here but furthermore it is a pretty boring place. Rotterdam The City I was born in and still the largest harbour in the world, and the largest city in the Netherlands. Bombed heavily in the WW II so there are very few old buildings left. This has however created a unique collection of some old buildings and high modern skyscrapers to create the city skyline (the only city with a skyline in the Netherlands). |
