| Malaysia Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur have an excellent train connection from Singapore (run by Malaysian Railways right from the Singapore station (it seems to be Malay territory all the way) A 2nd class ticket SIN-KLL costs 60 S$ (25 Euro) on the Senandung malam, a night train, including a sleeper (18 beds/compartiment). KLL-SIN costs 48 Ringgit 2nd class (11.75 Euro) or 60 ringgit (14.70 Euro) 1st class (2 beds in a compartiment). The train is pretty clean, aircon and nice. NICER than a bus may I add. Kuala Lumpur Kuala lumpur as a city is big and vibrant, everything is cheap and taxi's are great, the public transport system is ineffecient but worth a try, the lines of the city metro are run by different companies, which means that you need to buy more tickets and also if you wanna change it means go up, across the street and go down again. Not very inviting. KL is also a very dirty city, make sure you are in a big hotel, most of them are cheap anyway, for 30 Euro a night you can sleep in a High standard international hotel, the Swiss lodge is nice I stayed in the Park Inn which just opened, 105 RM (25.60 Euro) for a double, and a very nice room and buffet breakfast, just like any Hilton. On the streets at night you will find many rats as soon as you leave the big streets and even though they are more scared of you than you are of them, the thought is not very much fun. The food on the street is pretty safe however, and make sure you visit the petronas towers and the Bukit Bintan plaza mall. Also the Grande Mosque in the china town centre and the central-Market are worth a peak. |
